In Love With Steel

Moms, I guess I’m like a broken record at this point, and I truly hope I’m not being a nag, but, I just hate plastic. Of course, I do myself drink from the darn things since I simply MUST have my sparking water, but sweet, innocent babies shouldn’t be subject to formula fed from heated up plastics. See, we have to heat up the formula, IN the bottle, then the plastic bottles leach their toxins into the baby’s food, then into baby. Not cool. Read More »

Kentucky Derby Week – Dreams of Givenchy

How can you think of a day at the races without thinking of that classic scene from My Fair Lady, when Eliza Doolittle Flubs her first test in elite society and yells “Come on Dover! Move yer Bloomin Arse!”

Well, maybe I’m in the minority here, but I’m not exactly a big horse race follower – clearly more of a musical lover!

The first thing you notice and think of though, when anyone thinks Kentucky Derby is hats…and fashion!

Wearing a hat to the Kentucky Derby (and I’ll let you know about Saratoga later this summer), is believed to be good luck – and, go figure, women started the long-established fashion tradition but over the last few years, many men have joined in the fun! Wearing a hat, I’ve often felt, is a lot like getting into a new identity, as you can see in my hat review tomorrow…and you know, you might be pleasantly surprised to see what type of character you become, if you just (gulp!) grab a little courage and ironically be “yourself” and try it out. From the fabulous to the slick, the romantic to the sporty, there are no rules and no limits. On the streets of your town and in the clubhouse and paddock of the Kentucky Derby, women of grace and taste sport classy, fashionable headwear styles. Now I hear tell in the infield, headwear tends toward the zany so if you go, be ready! Read More »

Rain Down On Me By Guest Blogger Heather Welch-Smith

When I wake up in the morning the first thing I do is look outside to see the weather. I’m a creature of habit after years with a career in Landscaping, having kids & trying to determine how to dress for the day, I perpetually look to the window for a cue.  Sunshine always puts a smile on my face, living here in New England with such fickle weather; a day of sunshine is a day to capitalize on.  Over the years though, I have learned to embrace the days when i find raindrops on the windowsill.  Here are 5 great ideas to fuel your creativity on a day that you might otherwise feel is a wash.   Read More »

Monsanto & Whole Foods Ahhh Such A Heartwarming Partnership!

I’m taking a little break from my week of time saving beauty tips here to share with you the latest news you may or may not have read about Whole Foods Market’s latest and greatest bizarre, completely un-green decisions!

I tell ya, the more I know, the less I want to know, ya know? I mean, we used to think these guys actuallystood for something, coughing up our whole paychecks, waiting in the long lines, chugging along the packed aisles because they offered all those freebie samples (that we manufacturers of course, offer at knife’s point) thinking their Whole Foods Market standard actually meant something, and many people, sadly, will continue to think that.

Gurl Power!

I was watching this group of carolers a few weeks ago, singing out, loud and proud. They were under 12. It reminded me of a time before self-consciousness, before I cared what other people thought, before boys, before…hormones. I was prepubescent…and… brave.

As I got just a little older though, something changed suddenly. I became afraid… deeply afraid. The apologies came (more for taking up space in the world in retrospect, than anything I did wrong), more self, no HYPER-self awareness – basically worried about “falling down” and being laughed at or ostracized (not that that would have helped, I was already pretty out there so let’s say, not fit in in my case).

Free Radicals

Ok so practically every time I relax a little and forget to hit pause on my DVR, a commercial comes on telling me to watch out for free radicals. Those scary free radicals we’ve been hearing about for years now – I often wonder how many people out there really know what they are or do to our bodies or our skin? Read More »
