The Winter Blahs – Red

At no other time than winter do these words I read in a recent More Magazine ring any truer: “As far as I’m concerned, the most obnoxious pairing of words in the English language is the phrase ‘good morning.’ Separately, each word is fine, but say them together while I’m still in bed and you can expect a pillow flung at your head along with some heartfelt epithets!”

My sentiments exactly…and actually this is quite mild compared to my morning rantings.

So in that vein, I thought I’d offer some “color analysis,” this week. Some ways to punch up an otherwise blah winter morning with some mood-altering fashion enhancements, and on Friday, just a little something to make you smile, I hope…
Gosh, it really just started getting wintery, so truly, eh, it’s gonna be seriously blah unless we exorcise the cold weather, early darkness demons from our beings quick!
And ok, I’ll admit that I too, do in fact get woken up with the words “Good Morning!” and that they are quickly followed by the words, “I love you!”

But nope…for me, even that doesn’t take the sting out. Don’t wake me up…you wouldn’t like me when you wake me up…Grrrrrrrrrrr

MOOD OVERHAUL – GIMME gimme gimme…COLOR!

Oh my gosh, not only do I love this dress (pictured above) but red is energizing and it makes people stand up and take notice of you! (maybe because it has the longest wavelength in the color spectrum, people need to look longer at it to process it?)
So if all eyes will be on you for longer – use it! (or lose it…)
Some facts:
Light red = sensitivity, joy, sexuality and love.
Pink = romance, love, and friendship.
Dark red = vigor, willpower, anger, passion, leadership, courage, wrath.
Red is also a high energy color reminiscent of blood and fire, so it is most often paired with war, danger, strength, power, determination and desire.
Red is also a very emotionally intense color. It enhances human metabolism, increases respiration rate, and raises blood pressure. It has very high visibility, which is why stop signs, stoplights, and fire equipment are usually painted red. In heraldry, red is used to indicate courage. Perhaps that is why it is a color found in many national flags.
Red brings text and images to the foreground. Use it as an accent color to stimulate people to make quick decisions; In advertising, red is often used to evoke erotic feelings.
Can YOU name any beauty campaigns you remember for being associated with RED RED RED?

How bout energy drinks?

Feeling low energy? Put on your red dress, skirt, lipstick, beret, or scarf…did that help?
