The Latest Greatest Facial Technique? My Scoop!

You can’t have a week blogging on famous folk without writing something about plastic surgery right?

Well, this isn’t exactly hardcore plastic surgery, but the latest in esthetic technique being sold to celebs and peasants alike!

Derma-planing! Here’s the professional description: a #10 blade (yes, a sterile surgical blade), is held against the skin at a 45′ angle and stroked along the skin, just like shaving (uh yeah, duh). However, the practitioner is doing the stroking while holding the area of skin taut (wow, that’s incredibly professional!). It’s the next new thing you may or may not start hearing about at a dermatologist’s office near you soon.Ok, so I think you can tell where I’m going with this…it’s…lady shaving. Yes folks, it’s shaving your face. At $500 bucks a whack. You can do the same darn thing with a disposable razor. Yeah, technicians do it with straight edges, so actually, you’re better off with your $1.99 lady Gillette (wait, do they make those anymore?) Again, it just kinda kills me what will be invented to make money! I read on one website: “Overall, I think that derma planing the skin is a great way to treat two skin conditions; dull skin and a fuzzy face!” :-O

Now, I believe in exfoliation, and perhaps, in all seriousness, I will admit, there may be SOME benefits to this because scraping the skin can be of some benefit. But how much?

So for you people, I tried it. And, what little hair I did have, I don’t anymore…which is kinda cool to be so smooth and dewy, but my boyfriend implored, “uh, can you do that with the door closed? I really prefer not to see you shaving your face. Next thing you know, you’ll be scratching…” Ok nevermind, TMI.

My experience: you guessed it, I cut myself! So I’m walking around with one of those tissues on my face just like a guy! It was kind of hysterical actually trying to keep that little square stuck on there…and I’m trying to explain it, “it’s for work!”

The good news is it did actually exfoliate some dry patches, smoothed out my skin and made me feel like I’d exfoliated but the problem is that it was…very temporary. It was also pretty dry, not refreshing at all, any dry skin I had came back and with a vengeance, as if I had exfoliated too much of the top layer away, which can happen.

So the verdict is in – I’m sticking to my normal exfoliation routine…I’ll leave face shaving to my man.
